HEALTH
Like any other breed the Chihuahua is predisposed to some breed specific health concerns.
Some of the breed's health predispositions include : luxating patellas, heart concerns (such as murmurs) or eye concerns (such as ulcers). Other concerns such as CM (Chiari-Like Malformation) can also be found in the breed.
Alongside this, it is important to note that the breed is Brachycephalic, however incidences of BOAS (Brachycephalic Obstructive Airway Syndrome) do seem to be low.
OFA Testing Recommendations :
Patella Scoring
Cardiac Exam (basic or advanced)
Eye Screening
Kennel Club Health Standard :
BVA Eye Screening Scheme
As a kennel we ensure that all of our breeding dogs are thoroughly health tested and strongly suggest that buyers purchase from breeders who do the same. Whilst this is not a guarantee it gives us the best chance of producing healthy offspring - we cannot know if our dogs are truly healthy without carrying out these tests.
