TEMPERAMENT

The Chihuahua is a versatile toy breed that can be both active and a lapdog. The breed is biddable and willing to please, with success in a variety of venues. They are however of their own self-importance - which should not be forgotten!

Typically velcro, the breed is very loyal to its owner. With terrier-like characteristics they should be outgoing and spirited, often believing they are far bigger than they truly are. They are full of character!

A Chihuahua should never be snappy or withdrawn, nor are they predisposed to any genetic aggression. The breed is often misunderstood by the public due to disreputable breeders not keeping temperament in mind, or due to mistreatment of the breed ; their size should be taken into consideration when it comes to their care.

Whilst suitable for an only dog lifestyle the breed thrives with others of its own kind. Extra care should be taken with cohabiting dogs of a larger size due to the small nature of the breed.
